Dear Mr. DeGraff
Subject: 2000 Hour TBO for Metal Propellers
This is in response to your June 9, 1997 letter requesting that the recommended TBO (Time Between Overhaul/Reconditioning Cycle) be increased from 1000 hours to 2000 hours.
In support of this extension, you have submitted Sensenich Engineering Report No.97-2, dated June 9, 1997, proposing, that since earlier service difficulties have been adequately addressed by ADS and service bulletins, and since maintenance instructions and protection from danger and corrosion have been greatly improved, this TBO is justified.
We have reviewed your conclusions and concur that a TBO of 2000 hours is acceptable.
With this approval, we believe that the final details necessary for publications of the next revision to the Metal Propeller Repair Manual have been satisfied. In that regard, we strongly urge you to issue this document at the earliest possible date so that the necessary instructions for continued airworthiness of Sensenich metal propellers with a 2000 hour TBO can be adequately supported.
If you have any further questions on this approval, please contact Mr. Ray O'Neill of our Airframe & Propulsion Branch at (516) 256-7505.
